Travel Centre

The Travel Centre was designed up to RIBA Stage C/D in reaction to a health and safety issue around an existing bus station. The plan and form was generated around the turning circle of a bus ensuring that the movement was always in forward motion, which resulted in a similar geometry in form and three dimensional design. The building was completed in 2003 and has been used successfully for the last 14 years a catalyst for further public realm and renewal of the central area of Southend on Sea. The building is well known and well used and includes a small café and mezzanine floor for the bus operators rest and recreational space. Integral to this project was a significant public realm improvement and highway design to allow free movement of public transport.
