Clarence Yard, 23-29 Clarence Street, Southend on Sea

SKARCHITECTS LTD were appointed to provide architectural services for restoration and refurbishment of the front building which is locally listed at Clarence Yard for a new bar and restaurant use.

The new Clarence Yard restaurant have been designed to appeal to a wide clientele including High Street shoppers, local workers, families and couples during daytime, evenings and weekends.

The existing Victorian building at the front was originally a bakery in the 1800s with the yard used as a loading bay and stabling area for horses. Over recent years, the building and original stone courtyard were used as a bar and restaurant known as ‘The Clarence Yard’.

The site was acquired by Stockvale Group in December 2016 who commissioned the refurbishment and remodelling of the front building to accommodate a new extended seating area with a mezzanine and enlarged restaurant kitchen.

The building exterior including the yellow and red stock external brickwork, slate roof and period shop front have been carefully restored by specialist subcontractors under close supervision of SKARCHITECTS LTD.

The new interiors feature a refurbished glass roof over the new mezzanine, bespoke internal timber windows, exposed feature brickwork, new front bar counter, drop chandeliers and leather seating.

SKARCHITECTS LTD worked closely with the Client to complete the project on time to open in autumn 2017.
