Office Refurbishment at grade 2 listed 9 & 11 Nelson Street, Southend-on-Sea, Essex


SKARCHITECTS have been appointed to provide architectural and planning services for an office refurbishment of the grade 2 listed terrace buildings at 9 & 11 Nelson Street in Southend-on-Sea.
The buildings form a part of 1-15 Nelson Street, known also as Nelson Terrace which was Southend’s first purpose-built shopping street. Nowadays the whole terrace is a series of professional services offices located close to Southend Town Centre, central railway station and local amenities.

The proposal aims to preserve, maintain, and modernise the buildings at Nos.9 and 11 as modern and attractive offices, and enhance the heritage significance of Nelson Terrace.

The refurbishment proposals have been submitted for planning earlier this month and  include careful restoration and replication of any missing period features, and complementary additions and upgrades where required.  All interventions will be functional and in the long term historical interest of the properties.
